About This Course

This course helps students develop insights into how businesses function and the role they play in our economy. In addition, students will learn about the opportunities, the skills required, and the impact launching and leading a business can have on their own lives and on society — today and in the future.

Learning Outcomes

Students will demonstrate an understanding of various business leadership styles and of the project management process used to perform business-related tasks

consider how business knowledge and skills can be applied to other subject areas and careers

enhance their knowledge of the contributions of successful entrepreneurs and describe how their business ventures address social, economic, environmental and ethical issues

analyze challenges that entrepreneurs face, and consider ways to address these challenges

create and maintain a portfolio that illustrates their business competencies and personal growth as an entrepreneur. Students will demonstrate an understanding of how businesses respond to market forces, including supply and demand, and the needs and wants of consumers

learn about the competitive market environment in Canada and the ways in which economic systems, trade relationships and governments influence it
