In this course, students will address the challenge of creating a more sustainable and equitable world. They will explore issues involving a wide range of topics, including economic disparities, threats to the environment, globalization...

Learning Outcomes

Formulate geographic inquiry questions and select appropriate data sources; gather, organize and interpret geographic information using models, GIS technology and statistical methods; evaluate the reliability and bias of sources; and communicate findings in oral, visual and written forms.

Analyze disparities in natural resources and explore how environmental, economic and political factors influence their distribution and use; evaluate initiatives to address resource conflicts and propose sustainable solutions.

Investigate demographic patterns and population change by examining fertility, mortality and migration rates; analyze causes and consequences of population disparities and predict future demographic trends.

Assess the concept of globalization by exploring economic, cultural and political dimensions; evaluate how globalization influences local and global sustainability and quality of life; and propose strategies for balancing globalization with stewardship and social justice.

Examine agents of change such as individuals, organizations and governments; analyze how leadership and public policy can address global issues like poverty, health, human rights and environmental degradation; and evaluate the effectiveness of stewardship and advocacy efforts in promoting social change
